Some people love all the refactoring and conveniences of Goland. VS Code is great too, I used IntelliJ Ultimate for PHP development for years. It works fine and can be handy since Ultimate supports almost everything (except C/C++). Coming from IntelliJ to GoLand was totally painless; everything worked as expected and I was able to focus on the problem rather than the IDE. IntelliJ always sucked here, but with additional overhead of Gateway connection it is really painfully slow to start up (T14s, Ryzen 7 Pro, 32GBs RAM). Switched from VS Code to IntelliJ, got acquired and my new shop uses Java and has Ultimate licenses. The only thing is I could not get IntelliJ to work with WSLg on windows. But I like Jetbrains products so went with IntelliJ so I can use one IDE for all my work and personal projects. If you install them, then the IDE should be identical. GoLand (or IntelliJ with the Go plugin, same thing) is light-years ahead of VSCode in terms of code assistance intelligence, giving a ton more productivity, and the ability to much more quickly produce much higher quality code. The only real downside is that PHPStorm hides abstractions that are not applicable for PHP, whereas IntelliJ has them visible. All the functionality is available in Ultimate, but sometimes it's bit nicer to have a cleaner interface when doing only Go coding. Most (infact all) kotlin dev's don't have a choice because kotlin only works on Jetbrains IDE and to use on vs code (or similar) means using kotlin LSP developed by a student and using plugins developed by enthuasist who will abandon it at A couple days late to the party. Some people can't stand that style of working. But, actually, my experience is opposite. GoLand, developed by JetBrains, is a dedicated IDE specifically designed for Go development. If you work with different languages, frameworks and technologies, or plan to expand your personal tech stack, IDEA is a great choice provided that you like your stuff all in one place. I am not 100% sure about this though, but I have heard people say something along these lines before. Vim and emacs options are good if you like that style. It's pretty straight forward to use and integrates nicely with the IDE's other functionality. IDE; paid; One fine day, the plugin development was stopped and intellij dropped its support on subsequent community versions in favour of their gogland ide, which was eventually renamed to goland and became their premium IDE for go. JetBrains compile and IntelliJ idea/goland takes a little bit to get used to but all the features it includes makes it way more powerful than VS code. So even if you mess up something with git or anything else, you can always recover to the point of time that you want. Now, with module support being terrible, it is possible that GoLand would be worth it. vscode is an editor with amazing capabilities, but its reliant on community is also its downfall IMO. If you are doing a large refactor, Goland is better. Knowing this, it's kind of a stretch to blame GoLand for replacing `gopls`.
